Kruger paints the tale of Mick and the Wasp
Mick Jagger by Sebastian Kruger

Mick With Wasp
30" x 40" Giclee on canvas
Edition 99/ Roman 75 / AP 25 PP 25
This is perhaps the most anticipated Kruger release to date. When we first unveiled this new painting at ArtExpo NY, we knew we had something very powerful. Sebastian saw it right away as well, and by the time the painting made its journey from Kruger's studio in Germany to New York, he had decided it needed to be the cover of his latest book Faces

The painting was an obvious master work. Both in its amazing technique and its entrancing draw. It is a perfect example of Kruger's gift, to lull the viewer with his intense cocktail of wit, darkness and mystery. After twenty years of dealing art we were able to recognize that we had a hit that must be published... That, and the hundreds of people coming through our ArtExpo booth asking "how much is it?" and "can we have a print now?"

Kruger explains the wasp
After "how much?" and "can we get one now?", there was one more question that came up just as often... "What's with the wasp?"

We've avoided this question for months. But we now have the answer from Sebastian's himself.

"In my eyes Mick´s big red lips have always looked like a very taste cherry cake. The wasp unseen by Mick due to the rim of his hat, is obviously thinking the same. 'Hmmm, what a delicious cherry cake!. I´d like to taste it very much..."

In a way the wasp is a menacing threat, a symbol for Lucifer, maybe he´s going to destroy the innocence of young Mick. For me, this image was my way to play a bit with the allegory of Eve and the snake."
