Where There Is Action There Is Holland

In the short time of just the past week, all of us at SPS Limelight Agency, have been once again reminded how much the art of Stephen Holland has become part of the everyday world of professional sports and celebrity. From ABC's 60 Minutes showing Holland's paintings of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during their lead story on celebrity estate agent Mark Rosler, to NBC focusing on Holland's painting of Joe Namath during Sunday Night Football.

It's sometimes too easy for us to miss these little but important reminders, as our attention is so often drawn to the constant list of the bigger examples of Holland's successful career. Dodgers, Grammy's, Lakers, Ravens, All Star Games, MLB, Kings, the list goes on and on. And this week was no exception, as Stephen visited Denver to participate in a very special ceremony in his capacity as the Denver Avalanche's artist.

Earlier this year Stephen Holland was approached by the Avalanche to capture the great history of their team, by commissioning ten iconic paintings. Each work will one by one be unveiled on the ice throughout the season. And will be reproduced as posters for all of the team's fans to enjoy.

The first of this on going series was of their own two time Stanley Cup winner Joe Sakic. During a ceremony on the ice, where they retired Sakic's Jersey number up into the rafters above, the team honored Sakic with Holland's heroic portrait of him. Later that evening the fans warmly (unlike the weather) welcomed Holland to Denver with a line of fans, hundreds long, to get his autograph and meet the new member of the Avalanche family.

But the sports fans of Denver got to see much more then the one painting from the stands and the small keepsake poster in their hands. They we're treated to a wonderfully successful art opening at Fascination Street Gallery filled with many of Stephen's iconic works.
